+ What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a distinct healthcare modality that focusses on the use of natural techniques and remedies to identify and support acute and chronic health conditions. It's based on health care, not sick care. Naturopathy offers a holistic approach to optimising your health with an emphasis on prevention; targeting the underlying causes of dis-ease in conjunction with the symptoms by supporting your physical, mental and emotional well-being. This is achieved through the application of gentle techniques and natural remedies that are designed to stimulate your body’s own natural healing processes.

Naturopaths may be qualified in a range of modalities, including:
• Naturopathy
• Western Herbal Medicine
• Homoeopathy
• Nutritional Medicine

Olivia holds an Advanced Diploma in each from the Australasian College of Natural Therapies (ACNT), where she was awarded the prize for Outstanding Naturopathy Graduate.

+ What is Herbal Medicine?

Herbal medicine is the oldest form of medicine in the world, having been practiced for thousands of years amongst Anglo-American and European cultures. Herbal medicines are made using parts of botanical plants, such as seeds, bark, roots or flowering parts. A few you may already know include Garlic, Ginger and Rosemary. That’s right, those basic herbs you’re used to seeing in your kitchen pantry have powerful medicinal uses!

You may have seen herbal medicines sold in pharmacies in tablet forms, however these are not often very potent, nor designed to target individual needs. As a qualified Herbalist, Olivia is trained to blend potent mixtures of liquid herbs tailored to your specific health needs. And yes, some of them taste horrible! But that must mean they work, right?

+ What is Homoeopathy?

Homoeopathy is a gentle form of natural medicine based on the theory of treating ‘like with like’. That is, a substance that causes symptoms in a large dose may be used in tiny amounts to treat and prevent those same symptoms. Homoeopathy can fundamentally alter the way your immune system responds to particular stimuli. For example, Olivia has successfully eliminated a client’s hay fever symptoms by using homoeopathy to change the way their immune system reacts to a particular stimulus; in this case dust.

The easiest way to understand homoeopathy is to think of it like you would vaccines. In fact, the world’s first vaccine for Scarlet Fever was a homoeopathic remedy.

+ What is Nutritional Medicine?

In the wonderful words of Hippocrates, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”.

What you eat has a huge bearing on your health and well-being. The practice of nutritional medicine draws on the scientific principles of human nutrition, food pharmacology and biochemistry prescribe dietary advice and nutritional supplements aimed at improving your general health as well as targeting specific conditions.

Olivia has an incredible passion for, and knowledge of, nutrition and the foods available to you here in Australia. She will provide you with the education and dietary recommendations that are not only going to help you achieve your health goals, but are easy to follow have a big focus on the joy that food brings.

+ What happens in my initial consultation?

Initial consultations last for 40 minutes, conducted face-to-face in the clinic setting or over the Skype world so that I can get to know you and conduct a holistic health assessment. Initial consultations includes the following procedures:
• Iridology
• Tongue and Nail Diagnosis
• Zinc Testing
• Adrenal Gland Assessment
• Blood Pressure Assessment

A few other things that will happen in your initial consultation are:
• I will ask you to talk about your health, family, work, friends, lifestyle, etc., and ask for a bit more detail on aspects of your pre-consultation questionnaire to really develop a holistic understanding your physical, mental and emotional health
• We'll also have a chat about what you can expect from me and what I expect of you during your naturopathic support. • You’ll leave with the first version of your Natural Health Plan, which includes nutritional recommendations and a prescription for natural medicines.

+ What will happen in follow-up consultations?

Follow-up consultations are recommended on fortnightly or monthly rotation, based on your health needs and results.

Your follow-up consultations will run for 30 minutes and whilst I would love you to keep coming into the clinic, you can elect to conduct these sessions over Skype for added convenience.

These consultations allow me to review your progress, listen to any questions you may have and assess whether your natural health plan needs to be tweaked to make sure you’re doing everything possible, in the most effective way, to achieve your optimal health outcomes. In review consultations there is a focus on education and empowerment, as well as coaching, which includes tools to support meditation, movement, positive mindset, successful weight management, goal setting and lifestyle recommendations including use of essential oils.

+ How do I prepare for a consultation?
Preparation for your initial consultation starts with your pre-consultation questionnaire (PCQ). When you book you’ll receive an email containing a link to your PCQ (a pdf version will also be attached in case you’d prefer to complete it by hand). Please complete the PCQ, providing honest and detailed responses, and return it to Olivia at least 48 hours prior to your consultation.

If you have any recent blood, stool, allergy, or other test results please provide these as well (either via the PCQ or by email). This will provide me with much more detailed insight into your health.

Your preparation for follow-up consultations is the fun part… Putting your natural health plan into action! That’s it. By following your plan in between consultations you’ll be in a great position to provide feedback to each time you see me. Not to mention you’ll start to notice meaningful progress as the days tick by.

+ When will I notice changes to my health?

Your rate of improvement will depend on a multitude of factors, including your genetic make-up, personal and family health history, symptoms and, importantly, your commitment to your natural health plan. Most clients get symptomatic relief within the first week or two, for example their sleep improves, their energy levels stabalise, and they experience less gut or digestive complaints. In terms of addressing your underlying cause and rebalancing the body it takes a little longer. This differs for everyone but as a general guide, allow one month for each year you've experienced chronic symptoms or health issues. For example, if you've had insomnia for 3 years allow at least 3 months to get and maintain results.
